Three water researchers discussed water security

by Özge Can Doğmuş  last modified Dec 13, 2018 10:02 AM

Three water researchers, Jamie Linton (University of Limoges), Doerthe Tetzlaff (IGB and IRI THESYs), Tobias Krueger (IRI THESys), came together to discuss the problems related to the operationalization of the term water security and how to deal with these problems in an interdisciplinary way. A new format has been applied for the 3rd ID: 30 min talk and 60 min discussion. The majority of the participants found this format very welcoming for them to actively participate in the discussion. Many researchers stated that they found the content and the format inspiring for their recent and/or future research. The debate was not heated in terms of disagreements but of that 'the water security is not an easy research topic and definitely require an interdisciplinary approach'.

THESys Writing Retreat for PhDs in the woods of Brandenburg

by Krystin Unverzagt  last modified Nov 26, 2018 11:02 AM

From 5-7 November 2018, seven doctoral candidates spent three days on a PhD retreat in Brandenburg, made possible by the IRI THESys Graduate Program. In an old parsonage now used as a retreat venue, the lucky seven gathered their steaming tea cups around the large dining table and typed away, enjoying productive silence interspersed with joint walks in the golden autumn, coffee in the afternoon sun and outbursts of sympathetic laughter. Productive days were brought to a benefitting end by cooking and sharing delicious meals by the stately clay oven, playing games and enjoying each other’s company.
