How to apply for membership

The THESys Graduate Program provides a platform for excellent first-year doctoral researchers from the humanities and the social and natural sciences of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin who are working on a thesis within the thematic scope of THESys’ science agenda.

Doctoral researchers who become members of the THESys Graduate Program are offered:

  • an interdisciplinary research environment with strong partners from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and extramural research institutes in the premises of IRI THESys
  • on-site networks with excellent scientists from various disciplines
  • regular meetings with interdisciplinary discussion rounds and colloquia to develop and built-up interdisciplinary thinking
  • special methodological and soft skill trainings according to individual needs
  • access to travel funds for research stays abroad and conference participation
  • participation in Summer Schools
  • the THESys Graduate Program certificate

 

 

Eligibility

Applicants for the THESys Graduate Program should hold an above average MSc/MA degree (or equivalent) in agricultural economics, social anthropology, geography, philosophy, physics, econo­mics or related fields. 

Applicants are in their first year of doctoral studies. They are admitted as doctoral researchers at a faculty of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

The topic of the doctoral research project must be in the scope of IRI THESys`science agenda and at least one supervisor should be a member of the IRI THESys. In case no THESys member is supervising the doctoral research the support of a THESys member is required to confirm the eligibility.

The THESys Graduate Program is organized in English, and thus a good command of English is required for participation.

Prospective doctoral candidates should have secured their own funding (min. 1,000 Euro per month, for at least two years) for the duration of their doctoral research.

In case prospective applicants receive no funding but have an interesting research idea and a potential supervisor at IRI THESys, we will support them in finding a funding source.
