Dr. Ludger Gailing is the acting head of the department „Institutional Change and Regional Public Goods“ and principal investigator of the lead projects of this department at the Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space (IRS) in Erkner. He studied spatial planning in Dortmund and Grenoble and is a researcher at the IRS since 2003. Currently, he prepares a habilitation project at the Geography Department of Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. In 2017 he was a guest researcher at Durham University (COFUND-Programme of the European Commission, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions).

Since 2017 he is a member of the Academy for Spatial Research and Planning (ARL) and 2018 he became a member of IRI THESys.
