Zoogeographical Distribution of Anisakid Nematodes in Marine Ecosystems

  • Molecular Parasitology
  • Integrative Taxonomy of parasites
  • Helminthology

"IRI THESys is giving me the opportunity to integrate parasitological and geographical data, which will significantly enrich my doctoral thesis. It is extremely motivating be in this multidisciplinary environment for a while." Isabel Di Azevedo

Isabel Di Azevedo is a doctoral researcher at IRI THESys. She is graduated in Biomedical Sciences (Federal Fluminense University - UFF-Brazil) and Master of Science by the program of Parasite Biology from Oswaldo Cruz Institut (Fiocruz Foundation, Brazil). The aim of her thesis is identifying, through classic (morphology) and genetic approaches, nematodes parasitizing cetaceans and fish from Brazilian coast, providing valuable data about helminthes parasites from marine ecosystems in Brazil.

Along with Dr. Jaime García Márquez and Prof. Tobias Krüger, she is developing a methodology that provides a reliable zoogeographical distribution of anisakid nematodes in marine waters, defining the modeled range of each species, mainly in Brazilian waters.

Her doctoral studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is funded by Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD).
