Tobia Lakes is Professor for Applied Geoinformation Science at the Geography Department of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Tobia obtained her doctoral degree at the Technische Universität zu Berlin and her diploma degree in Geography from Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. In her research Tobia focuses on spatial analyses and modeling techniques for studying human-environmental systems. The methods she applies are a combination of spatial statistics, GIS analyses, spatio-temporal modeling, machine learning and data integration, such as remote-sensing and qualitative data. Her particular interest is on urban areas, environmental justice, human health and scenarios of land use development for decision-making. Tobia has long research experiences in the area of Berlin and is currently also working in Brazil, Kenia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Tobia tries to address her research and teaching with integrative approaches from a methodological perspective to contribute to an improved understanding and decision-making of current challenges at the interface between human-environmental systems.
