"In my doctorate research I investigate the history, role and usefulness of integrated climate-economy models in climate governance. During my fellowship at THESys I examine in particular the narratives associated with such models. I plan to focus on two modeling challenges that are particularly contentious: how the highly uncertain danger of catastrophic climate damage is incorporated in models and how climate damages far in the future are evaluated." Marisa Beck

Marisa Beck worked with THESys from September 2014 to September 2015 as a visiting researcher. Her home institution is the Balsillie School of International Affairs at the University of Waterloo, Canada, where she is completing a PhD in Global Gov-ernance. Before coming to Waterloo, Marisa was working as the head analyst for global carbon markets with a leading market research and information provider for clean energy and carbon markets in London. She had previously received a graduate degree in business from the University of Mannheim in Germany and an MSc in envi-ronmental policy from the London School of Economics. Research for both her theses focused on climate change economics, one critically discussing different approaches to estimating the cost of climate change mitigation in Germany and the other exploring the behaviour of private investors under the Kyoto Protocol’s financial mechanisms.
