"My research is motivated by addressing a key injustice of climate change: that those who have contributed the least are most affected." Olivia Serdeczny

Since November 2017, Olivia Serdeczny is part of the junior research group “Temporal Evolution of Barriers to Adaptation and their Relevance for Climate Related Loss and Damage” led by Dr. Carl-Friedrich Schleußner, a consortium project between Climate Analytics and IRI THESys. Olivia herself is based at Climate Analytics and will be enrolled at IRI THESys' Graduate Program.

Her work within the research group focuses on international climate negotiations, and specifically the issue of loss and damage. Arriving at a strong institutional framework of support for coping with unavoidable climate impacts (loss and damage) is key for developing vulnerable countries. However, what are the leverages these countries have in international negotiations and what could a fair institutional setting look like that is agreeable to all countries? These are the questions Olivia wants to investigate with her doctoral research.

Before and partly parallel to joining Climate Analytics in 2014, Olivia worked as a consultant at the German Development Institute, as Technical Assistant at the Alfred Wegener Institute and as Research Analyst at the Potsdam Institute of Climate Impact Research and the German Advisory Council for Global Change (WBGU).
