The research group "Multifunctional Landscapes", led by Dr. Ina Säumel, focuses on edible city solutions, future landscapes and healthy living and seeks for optimized ways to turn research into real lab condition.

The group's research is about:

Multifunctionality as a strategy for healthy, biodiversity-friendly and sustainable productive urban and rural landscapes.

Innovation concepts for sustainable land management by using historical land use techniques to create a common identity.

Planning instruments to strengthen health-related ecosystem services in the green residential environments around multi-storey buildings.

Nature-based solutions for innovating cities and enhance social and climate resilience.

The group's experiences and results are:

Creating knowledge for the practice and not for the drawer: The group develops guidelines, planning instruments and optimized land use models for application and economic utilization.

One plus one is sometimes more than two: Expanded perspectives and horizons of experience lead them, together with all actors from citizens to mayors, to new research questions and innovative solutions that provide benefits for everyone.

Opening up new knowledge fields with the help of citizen science in schools: they encourage a participatory and emancipatory generation of knowledge with children as curious scientists and informed citizens of tomorrow.
