Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - IRI THESys

WINS Research

Within the interdisciplinary context of IRI THESys the “Berlin Workshop in Institutional Analysis of Social-Ecological Systems” (WINS) serves as a platform for knowledge exchange. It provides a space for the self-organization of scholars from local and international networks interested in the institutions and governance structures of Social-Ecological Systems.

Mission and Science Agenda

The mission of WINS is to advance communication between academic communities (economists, political scientists, geographers, sociologists, anthropologists, psychologists, and others) that study the role of institutions and governance structures in social-ecological systems and their transformation. It is an open platform for both advanced and young scholars to work symbiotically. Together with partners from across the world WINS is dedicated to the analysis and the design of institutions and governance structures that regularize social-ecological interactions towards sustainable outcomes. The overarching scholarly aim is to facilitate the accumulation of knowledge and the development of new, interdisciplinary and problem-oriented analytical theories and methods, bridging the multiplicity of approaches to this subject that have been established over time. Integrative discourses, interdisciplinary research and an advanced studies program serve as means to achieve this goal. The ultimate purpose is to strengthen the quality of policy making in the field by enhancing dialogue between academic communities, practitioners and stakeholders.
