Doctoral Researcher
Setenay Kizilkaya joined the IRI THESys in April 2025. She is currently working as a doctoral researcher at Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO). She aims at exploring how climate risks are perceived by rural communities and how these perceptions affect (im)mobility intentions from an intersectional perspective, focusing on the Issyk-Kul region in Kyrgyzstan.
Before starting her PhD, Setenay completed her bachelor’s degree in International Relations at Middle East Technical University, Turkey, and continued her studies in German-Turkish Master’s Program in Social Sciences at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. She wrote her master’s thesis in collaboration with CGIAR and ZALF on Gendered Perceptions of Climate Vulnerabilities in Mindanao, Philippines. From June 2022 to October 2023, she worked as a student assistant in the Fellow Program at Research Institute for Sustainability, Helmholtz-Zentrum Potsdam.
