KOSMOS Conference

Workshop, treasure quest, and interdisciplinary conference event on the occasion of the 250th birthday of Alexander von Humboldt

From Alexander von Humboldt’s KOSMOS to today’s Global Challenges: Navigating the Sustainability Transformation in the 21st Century

On the occasion of Alexander von Humboldt’s 250th birthday and in light of his famous Kosmos lectures, IRI THESys and the Geography Department are staging the KOSMOS Conference at HU Berlin from 28th - 30th August 2019. Termed ‘Navigating the sustainability transformation in the 21st century’ this conference shall provide a landmark for today’s great challenges towards sustainability.

A critical and constructive debate on the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be the focal point of the conference. Linking to Alexander von Humboldt’s perspective on nature and humanity as a web of interconnections, we target symbiosis between disciplines by bringing together scientists from all fields and nations.

The KOSMOS Conference will make use of classic and cutting-edge conference formats: expert forum, poster session, treasure quest, public debate, citizen scientist table, bar camp, and market place. Every conference day will be opened by a keynote lecture while the highlight will be marked by a public KOSMOS lecture held by Johan Rockström.

We invite scientists to contribute to this milestone conference and to share their research on the challenges of the sustainability transformation in the 21st century.
