Fluid Interdisciplinarities was a three-day festival that brought together artists, academics, and practitioners to explore water-related projects and perspectives. Co-organised by IRI THESys, the festival highlighted the diversity of our engagements with water through an transdisciplinary and collaborative program.
Key contributions included presentations by Mark Somogyvári and Tomas Uson in the World Cafés—one of the festival’s central working formats designed to foster exchange and dialogue. Timothy Moss contributed to the session Berlin Water Bodies with a talk on infrastructure, while two pop-up exhibitions enriched the program: FLUNSTWERKE – Wassergeschichten im Dialog, coordinated by Rossella Alba, and Infrastructural Rhythms, coordinated by Laura Betancur Alarcón.
During the public event on Saturday, Heindriken Dahlmann introduced a grocery selection representing “virtual water” as part of the River Relations format, sparking discussion around hidden water flows and consumption. Desirée Hetzel co-created a participatory installation for Party of the Panke, inviting participants to write letters to rivers. Throughout the festival, Krys Unversagt documented the proceedings with sketch notes and drawings, producing a vivid and thoughtful visual record of the three days.
The festival was conceptualised and organised by Pauline Münch, Tobias Krüger, Rossella Alba, and Matthias Zarama Giedion, together with artist Regina Hügli (One Body of Water), with support Evangelia Koutsiouki, Rasmus Rehwaldt, Fernanda de Castro Franca, as well as the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, the University of Montpellier and the Centre for Cultural Techniques (ZfK) and the Tieranatomisches Theater (TA T).
