Open Discussion on Community and Infrastructure

    When? 13.30-15.00

    Where? IRI THESys

You are warmly invited to meet with Darin Barney, Rhys Williams and (our own) Gretchen Bakke - the Glasgow Summer Fellows in Community and Infrastructure - for an open conversation about the ways in which communities and infrastructures are defined, determined and enacted in your own research.

We have found that many municipal 'net-zero by 20XX' programs link communities and infrastructures without thinking much about how either is constituted (locally or even generally) nor about how they might be expected to work together. We ask then: What does it mean to imagine infrastructure at the level of a community? What expectations are there of community in terms of inputs, governance, maintenance, and earned livelihoods from said infrastructures? What are the parameters of a community and what sorts of entities are imagined to belong to it (can corporations constitute a community? Can spiders?)

If you feel like these topics are lively and unwieldy in your own research please come and share your findings and concerns as we work through one of the dominate ideologies of future building, together in the present.
