Smart Rainwater Management: Modular Solutions for the Sponge City of the Future

    30 September 2025, 13.00-14.00
    Online upon registration

The benefits of urban greenery are manifold - it regulates the urban climate, promotes the mental and physical health of residents, creates recreational spaces, strengthens biodiversity and protects soil and water. Cities are under increasing pressure due to heat, heavy rainfall and drought, and trees also suffer from cramped locations. The sponge city concept offers solutions for resilient, greener urban spaces. One strategy is the local storage of rainwater. In the webinar, you will learn how modular street furniture ensures the irrigation of urban greenery, strengthens neighbourhoods and promotes environmental awareness.

    About the Speakers:

Rhea Rennert is an urban ecologist and nature enthusiast. She has broad expertise in urban sustainability and ecohydrology. In summer 2023, she founded Regenmodule together with Kitty Lambooij. In the webinar, she will introduce the modular street furniture with integrated rainwater storage, present the many possible combinations and applications and provide information on the necessary conditions.

Alice Sandor is deputy head at Schönbuchschule in Stuttgart and is responsible for the school garden and nature times. The nature times are lessons in which the children experience and explore nature outside in the school environment: the school garden, the biotope on the school grounds and the nearby forest. Alice Sandor reports in the webinar on how the rainwater bank is used in the school context.

Stefan Koderisch is an urban planner and project manager at AG.URBAN. He develops climate adaptation projects at neighbourhood level that involve administration, civil society and neighbourhoods in equal measure. His focus is on low-threshold, participatory planning and implementation processes that produce tangible measures in the urban space - from catalogues of measures and green backyards to climate-resilient neighbourhood squares. Stefan Koderisch will present two projects from Berlin that utilise on rain modules.
