Solarizing irrigation in India: A systems perspective

PhD Project

The project aims to examine the adoption of Solar Powered Irrigation Systems (SPIS) in India from systems perspective. The SPIS are promoted in India, not only as a strategy for sustainable energy transformation, but also as a way of improving productivity by providing access to cheap energy for irrigation. In spite of the different Government efforts in promotion of the SPIS, the progress in adoption by farmers has been slow. In this study we aim to decipher the dynamics of technology adoption, from the lens of both innovation system involving different actors in the chain, as well as psycho- social model of decision making by farmers.
