Marie Pratzer successfully defended her PhD thesis, Conservation in contested landscapes: considering land-use complexity in tropical dry woodlands.

Her PhD examined how simplified perspectives on land and land use overlook real-world complexity, especially in contested regions like the South American dry woodlands. It aims to improve conservation planning by integrating power relations and diverse land valuations, identifying where interventions can be both socially just and environmentally effective.

Marie completed her doctorate at the Geography Department under the supervision of Tobias Kümmerle (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) and Patrick Meyfroidt. The defense took place on 20 April 2026, and the final degree is Magna cum laude.

Congratulations to Marie for her outstanding achievement!
